EVIL was set up on 9 June 2008, named in honour of a previous wiki set up in August 2005.

The purposes of EVIL are dual in nature:

Foremost: Knowledge Platform - to fulfill the needs for a proper training platform to disseminate knowledge and to aid the construction of such knowledge
Second: Record of History - to provide a repository in which a factual account of the history of EC³ can be recorded for the viewing of future generations, such that past mistakes need not be repeated and past factors of success can be recreated.
